We have all been there. One minute, you are so sure, so positive, so secure in your faith in God and His Miracles that you could be a billboard for faith itself. The next minute (or sometimes, hours or even days), you are worrying. Peeling your fingers or biting your nails, scrolling online looking for a “sign” you are not missing Him. Not sure what your next move needs to be, even though you and God have already talked about “it,” you start to worry. That miracle He did for you that you purposely hold back sharing because you know people will not be able to grasp it—no longer enough. That test of obedience that resulted in more than what you asked for—no longer relevant. But why? Why do we do this to ourselves when we know the kind of God that we serve? The answer is simple: You are human and exhausted from The Job Season or Job-like testing. Specifically, here are three “little” reasons why you still worry even in faith:
“Little” Reason #1
A deadline of something important to you is approaching.
What to do about it:
Consider reading in Matthew 6:34 (ESV), which encouragingly reminds us that, “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”¹
“Little” Reason #2
The same issue has resurfaced, and you are afraid that the outcome will be as disastrous as last time.
What to do about it:
Studying Isaiah 41:10 (ESV) may help ease your fear and validate your worry, but with a sense of hope:
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”²
“Little” Reason #3
You are tired of waiting and are feeling “left behind.”
What to do about it:
Perhaps sit with God for a few minutes and see what Jeremiah 29:11 (ESV) says about God knowing His plans for us, which means, God has already figured out your situation, even though it may look like He has not, God has a future for you:
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”³
Whenever we are waiting to hear from God, He usually does push our faith. Sometimes, He pushes our faith in ways that feel painful or even confusing. But going into the week or if it is easier to grasp now, into the next day, try to place your worries, questions, and concerns all at God’s Feet, God’s Child. He is with you and keeping you in ways you cannot (yet) fully see.
